Auchincruive D Level Tournament

(10+ Handicap)

Auchincruive Croquet Club stages a day of fun playing competitive croquet

On Sunday, August 16th eight players with golf croquet handicaps of 10 or above gathered to play competitive croquet. Our Captain, Michael McLachlan, devised the event to give the participants experience and exposure to playing in competitions.

The weather gods toyed with us for a while but finally relented and allowed us to enjoy a dry abet a chilly afternoon. After a briefing on the covering the format and filling in the handicap cards, a short warm-up allowed the competitors to appreciate Steven’s fine cut lawns following the lawn mower maintenance session held earlier in the week.

The inaugural event followed the format of a typical one day competition:
* Single 13pt games, time limited to 50 minutes.
* Two all-play-all blocks of 4 players, followed by a knockout with the top 2 from each block qualifying for the semi-finals.
* Block winners decided by points, then hoop difference, then a head-to-head match as a last resort.
* There is a plate event for the bottom two in each block following the same format as main knockout.
* Prizes are awarded to the winners and runner ups of the tournament and plate competition.
* Players can expect to play at least 4 games each.

The players were expected, in the main, to self-referee matches themselves but Michael and Ian acted as referees for any situations that need observing. The referee’s decision was final!

The draw and results are set up on the Croquet Scores website. CS is very precise about name spelling, including case. For example it sees MacDonald and Macdonald as two separate entities. Any issues let Michael know and he will amend the details.

Small prizes were handed to the winners.  The results were as follows:

  • Mary Shaw – Plate runner-up
  • Karen McAulay – Plate Winner
  • Joyce Arnot – Finals Runner-up
  • Kevin Firth – Finals Winner

A great day was had by all.  In the words of our ChairPerson Joyce Arnot, “Thank you Michael for a seemless, fun, happy, enjoyable day and that’s what it should all be about

Mary Shaw – Plate Runner-up
Karen McAulay – Plate Winner

Joyce Arnot – Finals Runner-up

Kevin Firth – Finals Winner
