Competition rules and guidelines

  1. Based on the number of entries, we will have two leagues. The winner of each league will play a final 3-game match to decide the competition winner.
  2. Everybody plays everybody else in their league. Each league match will consist of 2 games.
  3. Winners will get 3 points. Losers get 0 points. Draws will result in one point each.
  4. Full results of each match, (e.g. 7-4, 3-7) should be sent to the club captain with a post on the main WhatsApp group.
  5. If one or both players from a team fail turn up within 10 minutes of the agreed start time, that team will forfeit the match, and the score will be deemed to be 7-3, 7-3 to the opposition. If the opposition decide that they wish to reschedule the match instead they can, but there is no pressure on them to do so.
  6. Games which had been arranged can only be cancelled by either party informing the opponent by the day before by posting in the main WhatsApp group. If cancelled after this time the person cancelling the game will be penalised (7-3, 7-3) unless the opposition wishes to reschedule the match, but there is no pressure on them to do so.
  7. Any player who becomes unable to continue in the competition may be substituted by another ACC player as long as that player has not already played in the competition.
  8. Any team that is unable to complete any of the matches will forfeit with a score of 7-3, 7-3 to the opposition.
  9. League winners will be decided by the following:
    1. Points. Then, if equal, by

      1. If 2 teams are equal, they will play a 3-game match decider.
      2. If more than 2 teams are equal then the captain will arrange a 1 game all play all round robin decider.
  10. The competition will be decided by a final between both league winners playing a 3-game match. The club captain will coordinate with both league winners to schedule the final.
  11. The leagues will conclude by the end of September, and the competition before the end of the season. The prize giving will be at the Christmas party.
  12. The club captain will have final say on all rulings and any issues related to the competition.

General notes:

  1. A croquet session of 2 hours should normally be enough time to play 2 games. Get to the croquet lawn early and be set up to start playing promptly! You should be ready to start at the starting time, not just arriving at the lawn!
  2. Please do not take all day in playing your games! Although some shots require a bit of thought, most shots are obvious and can be played with little delay.
  3. Slow play is to be deprecated and should be called out by the opposition when it occurs.
  4. Please start scheduling your matches as soon as possible to avoid any bottlenecks / issues later in the season.
  5. If you have any issue, please involve the captain at the earliest opportunity.
