Competition rules and guidelines
- All Entries to the Club Captain.
- Depending on the number of entries we may have one or two leagues. If there are 2 leagues the winners of each of the 2 leagues will contest a final match.
- Everybody plays everybody else in their league. Each match should be the best of 3 games. The third game can be shorter if time is running out. If the third game cannot be completed the result should be a draw, unless both parties agree to reschedule the 3rd game.
- Winners will get 2 points. losers get 0 points. Draws will result in one point each.
- Full results of each game, (e.g., 7-4,3-7,7-6) should be sent to the Club Captain after the match.
- If one or both players from a team fail turn up within 10 minutes of the agreed start time, that team will forfeit the game, and the score will be deemed to be 7-3,7-3 to the opposition. If the opposition decide that they wish to reschedule the match instead they can, but there is no pressure to do so.
- Games which had been arranged can only be cancelled by either party informing the opponent by the day before by posting in the main WhatsApp group. If cancelled after this time the person cancelling the game will be penalised (7-3,7-3) unless the opposition wishes to reschedule the match, but there is no pressure on them to do so.
- The competition will be decided by the following:
- Points. Then, if equal, by
- Net Games. Then, if equal, by
- Nett hoop points (HD – Hoop Difference). Then, if equal
- Play a 3-game final to decide who wins!
Note: HD refers to the column within the league table above which is updated as the matches are played and reported.
General notes:
- As a croquet session is 2 hours long and 3 games can be played, get to the croquet lawn early and be set up to start playing promptly! You should be ready to start at the starting time, not just arriving at the lawn!
- Please do not take all day in playing your games! Although some shots require a bit of thought, most shots are obvious and can be played with little delay. 2 hours should normally be enough time to play 3 games.
- Slow play is to be deprecated and should be called out by the opposition when it occurs.
